Veterans Day 2018

On Veterans Day, November 11, VA joins the nation in honoring all who have served, marking the centennial commemoration of the end of World War I. As we look back and remember the incredibly selfless service of our nation’s Veterans, we also highlight the first time in American history that women formally served in our nation’s military. 35,000 women officially served as nurses and support staff, establishing a rich legacy of service in their stories of strength, determination, skills, and leadership.

America’s Women Veterans

Join us in honoring these incredible women as we share their stories of service. In showcasing the significant role of WWI women Veterans, you become part of VA’s continuing efforts to recognize the contributions of women in defense and service to our nation and reaffirm our commitment to caring for today’s 2 million women Veterans. This reflection into our past highlights the achievements and advances of women Veterans throughout the last 100 years, while renewing our commitment of service to our women Veterans of today.

VA Welcomes Women Veterans

Women Veterans receive the same Medical Benefits Package as men. Along with their enrollment in the VA health care system is the assurance that health and treatment services will be available when and where they need them.

VA provides full services to women Veterans, including comprehensive primary care, gynecology care, maternity care, specialty care, and mental health services.

Women Veterans Program Managers are available at every VA Medical Center nationwide to advise, advocate, and coordinate care for women. In addition, VA has Designated Women’s Health Primary Care Providers (WH-PCP) at every site where women access VA.  WH-PCPs provide general primary care and gender specific primary care.

Women Veterans Call Center—1-855-VA-WOMEN (1-855-829-6636)—provides women Veterans, their families, and caregivers’ assistance with VA services and resources.
